A road dividing the site into two, the challenge was to unify the entire scheme creating a unique resort experience on the outskirts of Mumbai in Maharashtra. The main idea was to break away from the typical elevation of the hotel, creating long rectangular masses which house the guest rooms and suites, lifted up from the ground to provide an open ground floor for designing the various public and landscape areas.
The public areas- Lobby, Bar, Restaurant, Gymnasium, Spa and other activities are scattered on the ground level across both plots, providing a seamless movement at one level and close interaction with the landscape. To limit the visual connect from the outside to inside and to avoid excessive heating of the internal spaces during the hot summers, the structure is wrapped with a ‘second-skin’, a facade of wooden slats that provide natural light and ventilation while providing a visual connect from the inside.
Lonavala is a picturesque hill station located in the Indian state of Maharashtra, situated in the Sahyadri Range of the Western Ghats.
"Lonavala" is derived from the Sanskrit words "Len" and "Avali," which mean a series of caves. The region is known for its numerous ancient Buddhist caves and rock-cut temples.
